General Description
Task / Purpose:
If you are the last one in the office in the evening or on the weekend, you should properly power down the file server before you leave the department.

Detailed Steps
1.
Make sure everyone else is logged off
Make sure no one else is still logged on to the server by checking the active connections screen or walking around the office and checking with anyone still working.

2.
Perform shutdown routine
At the server do, the following

2.1
Use <ALT><ESC> to toggle the screen to the screen with the COMPANY: prompt
NOTE: This looks like a DOS screen.

2.2
Type the command DOWN. Then press <Enter>.
The shutdown routine will run and the EXIT prompt will display.

2.3
Type EXIT. Then press <Enter>,
The DOS prompt will display.

3.
Turn off power
Press the power switch on the front of the server. The power switch is the green button in the upper right corner of the control panel.

The power shuts off and the monitor goes blank.

Make sure the lights on the surge protector stay on. Do NOT disconnect the surge protector.
